Reunion

So every Easter after church we head in the car for a short 1 hour trip and go to a family reunion..not my family..my husbands..and each year it grows..it is such a fun time..and if I posted family photos..even then I do not think you would believe me. The family has been meeting together on Easter since 1879...Can you believe that?..it is amazing..and only a few "old timers" remain..but it is amazing what a crowd they bring in.

Several years in a row it has been at the old Fire Station..do not know why..but it has..but this year weather being 88 degrees today they decided to go to the old "Homestead". This is the place that if you were anybody at the reunion..you either were born there or you were a part of the once a week dinners put on by all the ladies in the family growing up. This house is equipped with a dirty little fishing pond, a pretty full petting zoo (more goats then anything), and plastic yard art beyond the horizon.. My girls were in heaven. We stripped out of our Easter dresses and opted for play clothes even before we got there ..(play clothes meaning Lilly Pulitzer shifts)..This mom forgot about the petting zoo...but they had fun throwing stale bread to the fish and other critters..holding the baby goats..and all in all getting a sweaty mess.

Now I ate many a good meal growing up in the North. Our family can cook..and they can party..but I never experienced real "Southern food" until the first Easter I was a part of this family. From the fried chicken..to the dumplings..to the green beans..to the sweetest sweet tea you have even sipped. It is all good. And every year the oldest member of the family breaks into a mini sermon, then sheds a few "God is so good to this family tears"..and then belts out a great prayer. It really is a simple day. No need to mark the calendar..same date and time next year..Easter Day.

He is Risen.
He is Risen Indeed.
