Doctor. Doctor...

I posted a few days back that my youngest had croup this past week.

Well, my oldest came down with a fever this weekend that lasted 3 days.. Kind of high.. but nothing alarming. She has not been herself.. and my mother in law watched her yesterday morning while I taught.

She came home around 1 pm or so.. kind of tired.. but again.. she had had a fever .. so this is natural.

Last night she complained that her "feet" hurt. I even carried her to bed.. thinking gosh.. she just has not kicked this thing.. whatever it is.

She had to use the potty last night.. well. this morning around 3 am.. and she started screaming.. she had fallen.. b/c she could not walk. I was alarmed to say the least.. but .. could it be a "leg cramp".. she settled down after I carried her to the potty..etc..

This morning.. she had lost the use of her legs. I panicked. Called in work.. Called the nurse "hot line".... Called my husband.. then googled everything I could think of. She started to stand on her own before we left for the doctor's appointment. Progress. She actually hobbled into the doctor's office on her own.. where they proceeded to do a series of test.

We still do not know what is wrong. The virus (flu maybe.. they were all out of the tests) seems to have settled into her legs.

In talking with numerous people (been on the phone all day with so and so.. and so and so..) this seems to be "common" and I use this word lightly.. at least people have heard of this..

Needless to say.. it has been an emotional roller-coaster and we still do not know what is happening.. She is walking on her own.. sometimes better than other times. She has a hard time handling the stairs..

---

Keep her in your prayers if you pray. The blood work came back ok.. nothing alarming. Her white blood cell count is slightly off because of the virus.. but nothing "weird".

---

So we wait.. and hope it clears up on it's own.. I hate waiting.. not good at it.. but if you had seen where we "started" at this morning to where we are right now.. hobbling.. I can take comfort in that. God had his big hands on her little legs.. and this mommy's heart.

Jen, I don't know if this will help, but I always find it's good to hear of another's experience with similar things. This exact same thing happened to my nephew last year when he was 6. He started by complaining that his legs hurt and by the next morning he couldn't walk at all. It turned out to be a virus and he was also very dehydrated. The doctor's checked for kidney damage as well as muscle degeneration. On the dr's advice he was given Motrin for 2-3 days and now he's as good as new.

I'll be thinking of your little girl and you. Best wishes as you get through this trying time.

Jen~A friend of mine here just a couple weeks ago went through the same thing w/ her 5yr.old. They tested for Perthes? Disease but it ended up just being a cold that had settled in his hip?! Crazy! She was a wreck and it lasted about 2weeks.He would complain to the teacher and wake up crying at night--weird,huh? I've already prayed for you and M--the waiting/worry is so hard. love, kim

I will check w/ hubby when he comes in off the slopes..we are 2 hours behind here and i'm sure or pray your daughter is much better. I know when a child has fever, their bodies hurt. yes, ibuprofin is the best for muscles.
